Teaching and Training

We are a GP Teaching Practice and over the course of a year we may have two GP Registrars working with us.

GP Registrars

A GP Registrar is a qualified doctor who has decided to work in General Practice. As part of their training they spend up to two years working in hospitals in different departments, usually before commencing work at a GP surgery. This is compulsory experience before becoming a GP. Registrars work closely with their appointed trainer, in our case Dr Lowcock or Dr Veltkamp.

Registrars will usually be working with us at the practice for up to 12 months. During that time they may wish to video record the consultation, which you will be notified of and asked for your permission to do so. This is strictly confidential and is for training purposes only. You may also be asked to complete a questionnaire on your experience with of the Registrars. Please be honest when submitting your answers as this gives very valuable feedback for the individual doctors. This is an ideal opportunity for you to help in the development of future GPs.

Student Nurses

We work closely with Edge Hill University and occasionally have Student Nurses training at the surgery.  These Nurses never work alone, they are always accompanied by our qualified Practice Nurse.  Please be patient if your consultation includes a Nurse on placement as you may find they ask more questions than normal.
